The Science and Fiction of Edgar Rice Burroughs

My Book Has Been Published!

I am extremely excited to say that my book has just been published with Gylphi Press!

The Science and Fiction of Edgar Rice Burroughs looks at the American pulp fiction writer Edgar Rice Burroughs – most famous for creating Tarzan and, if you’re into classic science fiction, John Carter of Mars. The book is about Burroughs but it’s also about all the ways that science and popular fiction interact, influence, distort, and inspire each other.

It’s got astronomy, eugenics, evolutionary theory, nervous illnesses, psychology, anthropology and plenty of other scientific disciplines.

But then it also has ape-men, jungles, Martian princesses, dinosaurs, mad scientists, and everything else you’d expect in a book about early 20th century pulp fiction.

Lots of the episodes from the podcast have been based on research I did for the book and I think I can safely say that if you like the podcast you’ll this book.

It costs an extremely reasonable £17 and is officially on sale from the 24th July. But you can pre-order your copy on Amazon now.
